Starting in 2019, all cars produced and sold by Volvo will be either hybrids or electric vehicles, reports William Boston forĀ The Wall Street Journal. Volvo made the decision citing the potential growth of the electric vehicle market and the importance of promoting green, carbon-free lifestyles. Nearly all major automakers are preparing to make the same switch, developing technologies that will allow them to produce cheap, useful electric cars, but Volvo was the first to make the transition final.
Volvo was the fastest growing automaker in the U.S. last year, selling around 83,000 vehicles in the States alone. Electric cars and automakers have the highest market value and have seen the greatest rate of growth over the past decade, and Volvo has set the precedent for modern automakers.
