World Food Day, observed this year on Sunday, October 16, will focus on food and climate change. In a message issued Friday to observe the day, Pope Francis said we all have a responsibility to protect the planet for future generations.

In his message to José Graziano da Silva, Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization, Pope Francis urged “the climate is changing.” Francis said this “leads us to consider the fight against hunger as a goal even more difficult to achieve, in the presence of a complex phenomenon such as climate change.”
