Newly elected French President Emmanuel Macron announced at the G20 Summit in Hamburg, Germany that France would host a major climate summit this December, according to Sarah Wheaton of Politico. The so-called G19, the world’s 20 largest economies without the United States, shored up their commitments to the Paris Agreement of 2015. December’s climate summit will mark the two-year anniversary of the landmark signing.
Macron has also forged new relationships with countries like China to unite in the battle against climate change. The two governments have begun to use the hashtag #MakeOurPlanetGreatAgain, a reference to President Trump’s infamous campaign slogan. The climate summit is set to be a major checkpoint after the agreement made in Paris in December 2015.
