Kenya pledges to cut carbon emissions 30% by 2030

The Guardian reports on Kenya's pledge to cut its carbon emissions by 30% ahead of the UN interntational climate conference in Paris.

Kenya may rank low on the list of global greenhouse gas emitters (on par with Singapore and Mongolia), but nonetheless, the country announced an Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) to cut carbon emissions by 30% by the year 2030.

The Guardian reports that in its submission to the UN ahead of a visit to the country by Barack Obama, the Kenyan government announced that it will meet this target by expanding its solar, wind, and geothermal power, while reducing reliance on wood fuel and bringing forest cover back to 10% of the country.
