How Climate Change Denial Threatens National Security

The U.S. military recognizes climate change as a major threat to American security, arguing that the issue should not be political, from Wired:

House Democrats met with leaders of the U.S. Army and Navy last week to discuss the military’s role in combating climate change, reports Nick Stockton for Wired. In a new budget resolution currently on the House of Representatives floor, the military officially recognizes climate change as a threat and is allotted funding to battle its effects. Climate change causes many humanitarian crises, which the military responds to with aid and advice and, sometimes, force.

The Democrats highlighted that the military can be successful in combating the threats that climate change poses, like mass migration or poor infrastructure, but cannot combat the causes of climate change, like greenhouse gas emissions, water policy, and renewable energy use. The amendment to the budget is a step in the right direction but will be a short-term solution in the battle against warming temperatures.
