The Royal Schiphol Group, a Dutch aviation company, will power all of its airports with clean energy from the beginning of 2018, reports Anmar Frangoul of CNBC. From 2020, all sustainable power will come from new Dutch wind farms run by energy company Eneco. According to Jos Nijhuis, president and CEO of the company, the announcement demonstrates that aviation “can and must be made more sustainable.”

An estimated 70 million passengers passed through the company’s airports in 2016, including Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Rotterdam The Hague Airport, Eindhoven Airport and Lelystad Airport. Outside aviation, the Netherlands is demonstrating strong climate action with ambitious plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050.
