In a discussion Monday with a group of top scientists, including the theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, Pope Francis urged world leaders to implement global climate agreements like the Paris Agreement on climate change without delay, Reuters reports.

“The ‘distraction’ or delay in implementing global agreements on the environment shows that politics has become submissive to a technology and economy which seek profit above all else,” Francis said.
