A spike in Australia’s renewable energy generation caused a sharp drop in the country’s emissions at the end of 2016, The Guardian reports.

Australia’s emissions fell by 3.57 million tons in the last three months of the year, due entirely to record levels of hydro and wind generation in October, scientists report in a new study.
